Sock Monkey Afghan

The Sock Monkey afghan is inspired by the sock monkeys that many had in their childhood. The pattern is made using the block stitch throughout and can be made in various sizes. The crocheter can use any brand yarn in any shades of their choice.

Materials
• Yarn
o Brown/taupe – approx. 40 oz
o Ecru/off-white/tan – approx. 6 oz
o Red – approx. 3 oz
• Size I/5.5 mm hook


Notes
• Beginning ch 3s count as a dc st
• Beginning ch 1s do not count as a sc st
• Pattern is written for twin size with no drape. Beginning chains for larger sizes are:
o Full Size – Ch 190 (189 + 1)
o Queen Size – Ch 211 (210 + 1)
o King Size – Ch 265 (264 + 1)
*Starting chains are based on multiples of 3 plus one more chain


Pattern:
Twin Size – Ch 142 (141 + 1) with brown/taupe yarn
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in next ch. *(Ch 2, sk 2 st, 1 sc in next ch). Repeat from * across the row and sc in last st.
Row 2: Turn. Ch 3. 3 dc in each ch-2 sp across the row. 1 dc in last sc of previous row.
Row 3: Turn. Ch 1, 1 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in sp between dc and first 3-dc group. *(Ch 2, sk 3 dc, 1 sc in sp between the 3-dc groups). Repeat from * across and 1 sc in last st.
Row 4: Turn. Ch 3. 3 dc in each ch-2 sp across the row. 1 dc in last sc of previous row
Rows 5 – 14: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to ecru/off-white/tan yarn
Row 15 – 20: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to red.
Rows 21 and 22: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to ecru/off-white/tan yarn
Rows. 23 – 28: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to brown/taupe yarn.
Rows 29 – 152: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to ecru/off-white/tan yarn.
Rows 153 – 158: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change to red yarn.
Rows 159 – 160: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to ecru/off-white/tan yarn.
Rows 161 – 166: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Change color to brown/taupe yarn.
Rows 167 – 180: Repeat rows 3 and 4. Fasten off and weave in loose ends.
